Boulevard de l’Atlantique - 1989
At the end of the 80’s, the artist Pascal Teffo explores a new urban phenomenon : public places become flooded with television screens. People passing by are mere shadows in front of these screen walls. Virtual reality seems to replace reality. At the same time, a new urban attitude appears on the streets : « popping » is a spasmodic, and violent street dance, often done in front of the screens, as if the dancers were eager to compete with them for the public attention. Pascal Teffo transforms the popping dancer into a crab trying to cut the screen cables. In his own artistic way, he conveys the fight of man with virtual images.
Teffo’s artistic approach drew him naturally to use the photographic medium, and the super brilliant finish of Cibachrome as a print edition. He worked on the very small ekta object, using multi layers of film, cutting them with cisors, engraving them or drawing directly on them. His technique is unique. And so is the result. Edition of 10, 1989.
